Crop Til You Drop!

As many of you know, I am an avid scrapbooker and I’ve recently started my own custom scrapbooking business. Turning your hobby into a job comes with its own unique mix of challenges and hurdles, including the first client. While getting your first client is super exciting (cha-ching!), it’s also a huge learning curve. Take me for example. I got my first client within 2 weeks of launching my business. The client requested an album as an anniversary gift for his wife, who is also an avid scrapbooker and recently a new mother.

Excited to have my first client secured, I set an ambitious target for completing the album by their anniversary date – a mere week and a half after initially receiving the request. With a tight timeline, I set up shop immediately and got to work scrapbookin’!

After a full Sunday of scrapbooking, plus several late nights, I completed the album. The album captured a series of Disney trips the couple took, so it was a blast to create! I hope you enjoy browsing the pages below:

Happy Friday, folks!

In poking around the internet, I came across this great scrapbook page that I really like on scrapbook.com.

I love the use of patterns and shapes incorporated in this layout. The overall feel is light-hearted and fun, perfect for a theme park visit page! Kudos to Mendi for designing and sharing this awesome layout. There are certainly some great ideas popping off this page!

Ribbon Love!

We all find uses for it...

Some use it on gifts

Some play with it

And some scrapbook with it!

I don't know about you, but I absolutely LOVE ribbon! I am crazy about this fun, flexible embellishment!

Ribbon comes in all shapes, colors, textures and sizes. It is a great way to spice up a page, add dimension and give some color! I also like to use ribbon to define lines on my pages, such as splitting pages in half or creating a photo border.

You might be asking yourself, how can I adhere ribbon to my page? Great question!
While adhering ribbon can seem like a challenge, its really a very simple task!
Here are some ways you can adhere ribbon to any scrapbook page:
  • Use double-sided tape (my preferred method!)
  • Use a scrapbook safe (i.e. acid-free) glue
  • Sew it on
Sewing ribbon on adds another element to the already great look you are creating with the addition of ribbon on your page! Although it does require patience and the knowledge of thread and needles...

Do you know where you can buy ribbon? Pretty much anywhere! There are so many great places to find super-cute ribbon at a low cost! Here are some places you might look:
  • Walmart- seriously! They have cheap cheap ribbon in their craft/sewing section
  • Michael's- with the coupons this place puts out, you can get great deals on ribbon
  • Jo-Ann's Fabrics- great selection and good sales!
  • Scrapbook retailers- your local scrapbook store will have a decent ribbon selection too, but it might be a bit more expensive...
All this talk of ribbon makes me want to go scrapbook and add more ribbon to my pages. It also makes me want to head to Michael's and wander up the ribbon aisle, but my checkbook says that is a bad idea!

Hope this spotlight on ribbon has sparked a new thought in your mind about the use of this embellishment in your own scrapbooking! Please post comments about how you use ribbon and share any photos you have of pages featuring ribbon!

Looking forward to seeing your ribbon-mania!
